Lead Paint Testing

Do You Have Lead Paint On or In Your Home?

PRM Inspections Can Test to See if Your Home Has Lead Paint in it

Lead is a metal that acts as a neurotoxin. There is no safe level of lead in the body. Excessive amounts of lead can lead to cognitive problems, heart, and kidney disease. Children are the most at-risk since their brains are still developing.

In modern times, there were three main areas where lead was used that would allow it into the body: plumbing, gasoline, and paint. Lead pipes aren't used any more, although some may still be found in older buildings. Leaded gasoline is no longer manufactured, and it was determined that due to leaded gasoline, the IQ's of about half the population had been decreased by 2-7 IQ points. Lead paint could be found on toys, and in exterior and interior house paint. Properly maintained paint that isn't flaking isn't an immediate danger. But if you are planning any kind of renovation, and you have a house built before 1978, it would be wise to test the paint for lead.

PRM Inspections and Services can test the paint both inside and outside of the house and ensure that if lead is found, proper measures to encapsulate or contain it can be utilized. For more information about lead-based paint in the home, see this website.
